Hoick – to move or pull abruptly 

In the act of standing up, his chair made an inappropriate noise in the silent room – he smiled embarrassed and pointed with her eyes to the piece of furniture, as to make clear from where the noise came from. 


He was trying to gather the papers in a precise block on the right corner of his desk, but his sight was dull and his hands shaking. She gave him a look out of the corner of her eye while keeping on typing on the keyboard; she knew how many glasses of red wine he drunk at each lunch break.
